The rains ease off, the rivers run clear again and the spring crowds are still months away. It is the stretch of the year with the best mix of clear water and quiet trails, and Xantolo falls right inside it.

We're from Xilitla. You turn in with the sierra in front of you, you have dinner straight off the house hearth, and the next morning the same people take you to the river. The hotel, the restaurant and the guides are ours, and we'll pick you up in Ciudad Valles too. That's the part no reselling platform can copy.
You sleep surrounded by mountains, with the town below. Hotel Paraíso Encantado is in La Conchita, 400 m and a 5-minute walk from Edward James's garden.
You eat real Huasteca cooking, with tortillas pressed by hand on a clay comal. El Papán Huasteco is inside the hotel, open 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Alex and Ángel are from Xilitla and have been guiding since 2017. NOM-09 SECTUR certified, travel insurance included.

We leave from Xilitla. Tamul and Las Huahuas sinkhole are to the north, Tamasopo and Puente de Dios to the west, and Las Pozas is a five-minute walk from the hotel.
Why here, and not Costa Rica
The Huasteca Potosina is a natural region in the northeast of the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico: Ciudad Valles is its hub city and Xilitla — the Pueblo Mágico where we are based — sits about 3.5 h from Tampico airport (TAM).
3 days, 2 nights, the tours, the hotel and the insurance: $8,299 MXN for two people. The price you see on our booking page is the price you pay. Tampico is a short hop from Texas, and from the airport it's 3.5 h to Xilitla, in a private vehicle driven by us.
Before you decide
Our guided day tours run between $900 MXN and $1,850 MXN per person depending on the route, and that is the final price. The most popular ones: the Surrealist Route (Edward James) at $1,300 MXN, the Tamul Expedition at $1,450 MXN, and Cascadas del Meco at $1,600 MXN. The RZR ride around Xilitla is priced per vehicle, starting at $1,600 MXN per unit. Eden in the Garden is priced per group: $2,990 MXN to $4,160 MXN for the whole group depending on its size (1 to 7 people). If you'd rather stay several days with lodging included, our packages go from $8,299 MXN (3 days) to $15,700 MXN (5 days) per couple. Each figure is the total for two people sharing a room.
Depending on the tour: round-trip transportation from your lodging in Xilitla or Ciudad Valles, breakfast with regional dishes, entrance fees to every park and attraction on the route, a NOM-09 SECTUR certified guide, safety gear, photos and video of the day, and a first-aid kit. The price you see is the final price — no add-ons at the trailhead.
By car, with Ciudad Valles as your destination: about 6.5 to 7 h from Mexico City — 267 miles (430 km) on the Mex-85 / MEX-70 toll highway — and about ~6 h from Monterrey. By bus, there are overnight departures from Mexico City's Terminal del Norte: roughly ~8 h to Ciudad Valles, or 9 to 10 h if you ride straight through to Xilitla. By air, Tampico is the most practical airport (about ~2 h by road to Ciudad Valles, 3.5 h to Xilitla); San Luis Potosí is another option at about ~3 h. Drive the mountain stretches in daylight.
You can come any time of year: we run tours every day. From October 30 through May the water runs clear, and the turquoise is at its most intense from March to May, which is also the busiest time. From July to October the waterfalls run at full force and the water can carry sediment; if the river rises, we reschedule rafting at no cost. For clear water ahead of the spring crowds, the best season to visit is October 30 through December.
Yes. It is one of the most visited nature destinations in central-northern Mexico and receives Mexican and international travelers year-round. For extra peace of mind we recommend traveling with NOM-09 certified guides, driving the mountain roads during daylight, and always following the safety instructions at rivers and waterfalls. Our groups are small (up to 12 people) and every tour includes safety gear and a first-aid kit.
Yes. Several routes are low difficulty and work very well for families — Cascadas del Meco, the Stepped Paradise (Minas Viejas and Micos) and the Edward James Surrealist Route. Pricing is per person with a children's discount: about 70% of the adult price for ages 6 to 10, and 50% for children under 6.
You book online from the tour page: pick a date and the number of travelers. A 30% deposit holds your spot and the balance is due on the day of the tour, in cash or by card. You can also pay 100% up front if you'd rather arrive with nothing pending.
Free cancellation 48 hours or more before the tour, with a 100% refund including the deposit. Between 48 and 24 hours before, 50% is retained. Under 24 hours there is no refund, but you can reschedule once at no cost. If we are the ones who cancel — weather, safety, or a site closure — you choose between a full refund or rescheduling at no cost. The exception is Eden in the Garden. This experience is non-refundable: once it's booked, that day is closed to everyone else. You can move it instead by telling us 5 or more days ahead, keeping the full amount valid for 6 months. If the weather forces a cancellation, we reschedule at no cost.

We'd like to keep the rivers the way they are — that's why our groups stop at 12 and we work with the communities we grew up in. From October 30 through May the water runs clear; the turquoise peaks from March to May, which is also the busiest time. A 30% deposit holds any trip, with the balance due on tour day. Free cancellation up to 48 h before (except Eden in the Garden).
