“Nos encantó, ya no tienes que preocuparte por nada ellos se encargan de todo. Muy amables y serviciales todos, incluso no encontrábamos taxi y nos llevaron a la terminal de autobuses. Nos prestaron habitación para cambiarnos, nos recomendaron buenos restaurantes. Y los paisajes de ensueño, las fotos no les hacen justicia. Sin duda volveremos.”

What people in Mexico City ask us

Is there a tour to the Huasteca Potosina from Mexico City?

Yes. Our small-group trip leaves the Angel of Independence once a month, Friday at midnight, and comes back on Sunday night, arriving in Mexico City on Monday at 6:00 am. It includes transport, 1 night at our hotel in Xilitla, 2 breakfasts, Edward James's Las Pozas and Tamul waterfall with a guide.

How much does it cost to visit the Huasteca Potosina from Mexico City?

With our trip, MX$4,990 (about US$269) per person with everything included in a shared room. On your own, the round-trip bus alone (MX$1,040–MX$1,800) plus those two tours add up to MX$3,790–MX$4,550 per person, before hotel, breakfasts and local transport.

How far is Xilitla from Mexico City?

About 7 h by road (around 430 km; the last two hours are mountain road). On the trip you leave Friday at midnight and reach Xilitla at 8:00 am on Saturday: you sleep through the drive.

Why stay in Xilitla?

Xilitla is the Pueblo Mágico of Las Pozas, Edward James's surrealist garden: Hotel Paraíso Encantado is a 5-minute walk from it. Most trips from Mexico City sleep in Ciudad Valles or Aquismón instead, an hour and a half from Xilitla each way. We take you to Tamul.

When is the best time to go?

There are departures all year. From October 30 to May the water runs clear, and the turquoise is at its most intense from March to May, the busiest time. From July to October the waterfalls run at full force and the water can carry sediment.
