About this tour
Rappel down the wall of the Tampaón canyon with Tamul Waterfall roaring beside you. Professional gear, certified guides and aerial drone photography to prove you did it. The most extreme experience in the Huasteca Potosina — beginner-friendly too.
There are few places in the world where you can hang from a rope facing one of your country's tallest waterfalls. Tamul Waterfall — 344 feet (105 m) of water plunging into the Tampaón River — is the backdrop of this experience, and the moment you peer over the canyon edge you understand why everyone who does it can't stop talking about it.
We start at the river dock, our meeting point, where we hand you the full gear and our high-mountain guides give you a technique briefing. No prior experience needed: the first descent is guided step by step and most of our visitors had never touched a rope before. All you need is the will to do it.
Once secured to the harness, you begin to descend the limestone wall draped in vegetation, with the waterfall beside you spraying cool mist over you and the river's turquoise water waiting below. The sound is deafening, the scenery unreal, and for those minutes nothing else in the world exists. Our photographer follows you from the air with a drone and from the ground, so every second is captured in photo and video — included in your booking at no extra cost.
The activity lasts 3 to 5 hours depending on the group and the weather. The price includes all safety gear and professional documentation, but does not include transportation or meals: transport to the dock can be arranged separately for an additional cost, or you can make your own way there. Can I cancel my booking?
Yes. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the tour. Full refund, no questions asked.
What is the price per person?
The price is $1,700 MXN per adult. Children ages 6 to 10 pay 70% of the adult price and ages 3 to 5 pay 50%. Babies under 3 go free.
Where does the tour depart from?
There is no single departure point: we pick you up at your lodging — hotel, hostel, cabin or Airbnb — in Xilitla or Ciudad Valles, and bring you back at the end of the day. Round-trip transport is included and you don't need to stay with us. We confirm the exact time and address by WhatsApp after you book.
Do I need rappelling experience?
No. The first descent is fully guided, and most of our visitors have never rappelled before. Our high-mountain guides walk you through the technique before you go over the edge.
Is transport included?
Yes — the transfer from Ciudad Valles is included, and from there we head to the river landing. Meals are the one thing the price doesn't cover.
Do photos and video cost extra?
No, they're included. We document the whole descent with photography and drone video at no additional cost.
What gear do I need to bring?
We supply all the safety equipment — harness, helmet, gloves and ropes. You bring comfortable athletic clothes you can get wet, closed-toe shoes with a solid sole, and sunscreen.
How long does it take?
Between 3 and 5 hours, depending on group size and weather conditions.
