About this tour
Hop on an RZR and ride up to the coffee groves of Xilitla. Walk among the plants with the people who pick them, watch the beans get pulped, dried and roasted, and finish with a tasting of freshly roasted coffee. A relaxed experience of flavor and tradition, good for the whole family. $900 MXN per person.
Xilitla smells of coffee long before you reach the farm. The mountains around town are planted with shade-grown coffee, and this trail takes you right there: to the place where your morning cup begins.
The ride is part of the experience. We pick you up at your lodging in Xilitla and head up to the farm by RZR, along the dirt roads that cut through the rainforest — the same vehicles as our off-road tours, only here the destination is a coffee grove.
At the farm, the coffee-growing family welcomes you. You walk among the plants, learn to tell a ripe cherry from one that isn't, and follow the whole process: the hand picking, the pulping, the drying patio where the beans are spread in the sun and turned for days, and finally the roasting drum, when the smell fills everything.
It ends with the tasting. In front of plates of green, roasted and ground coffee, you learn to smell and taste the way cuppers do, and they pour you the coffee from that same farm. Plenty of people leave with a bag under their arm.
It's an easy outing with no physical demands, ideal for couples, friends or family. It runs about 5 hours and departs with a minimum of 2 people.
