La Trinidad — Xilitla Cloud Forest

La Trinidad is about 14 km west of Xilitla on a mountain road that climbs to around 1,950 m. The drive takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour. The final stretch is a very steep, broken dirt road, so it's best to drive in daylight and in a car that isn't too low, so it doesn't scrape.

Admission is $100 per person. You can walk trails to lookouts, pools, caves and sinkholes (such as the Olla de la Luz), stay in wooden cabins for couples or groups (roughly $700 to $2,500 depending on size), camp, build fires and grill your own food. It's cold up there, so bring a jacket.

You can visit year-round. The signature fog is densest in the rainy season (June to October). Because of the altitude the weather is cool and damp, so bring a jacket even if it's hot down in Xilitla.
