Day 1

Arrival + Edward James' Las Pozas

We start with what is closest to the hotel and least demanding: the surrealist garden, the springs of Huichihuayán and the Quilas Cave.

The world's most enigmatic sculpture garden, the crystal-clear waters of the Huichihuayán Spring, the living shadows of the Quilas Cave and the colonial architecture of the Castillo de la Salud. Culture and nature fused into one extraordinary day.

Tamul Expedition

The big day. Canoe through the Tampaón Canyon to Tamul Waterfall, cliff jumping at the Water Cave and the Sótano de las Huahuas at dusk, when the parrots fly out.

Paddle by canoe through the Tampaón Canyon to Tamul Waterfall — the tallest in Mexico — peer into the immense abyss of the Sótano de las Huahuas, and finish by diving into the underground magic of the Water Cave. A day that redefines what nature can offer you.

Minas Viejas and Micos Waterfalls

A water-and-rest day after the longest one: travertine terraces at Minas Viejas and the seven falls at Micos.

Minas Viejas unfolds its jade-colored travertine terraces that look hand-painted; the Micos Waterfalls chain turquoise pools through the tropical jungle. The ideal tour for those seeking authentic beauty, crystal-clear waters and moments of peace far from the noise.

Day 4

The day you choose

Puente de Dios, the natural cave with the river running through it, or El Meco Waterfalls with its lookout. Both cost the same, so the choice does not move the price: pick whichever you are missing.

Pass through the natural cave of Puente de Dios with the river flowing at your feet, explore the Los Gómez Hacienda and descend the Seven Waterfalls in sequence. The crystal-clear pools of Tamasopo await anyone who wants to extend the adventure.

How to get here

Trip logistics

Public transport times and fares are approximate and change with the season — confirm them when you book.

By car

  • From Mexico City: ~5.5 hours (about 339 km).
  • From the city of San Luis Potosí: ~5 hours.
  • The approach to Xilitla is a mountain road with tight bends and fog: we recommend driving in daylight, slowly and with a full tank.

By plane

  • The most practical airport is Tampico (TAM): ~2.5 h to Xilitla and ~2 h to Ciudad Valles.
  • Alternatives: San Luis Potosí (~5 h), Querétaro (via Jalpan) or Mexico City / AIFA (further away).
  • From the airport it's best to rent a car or take a private transfer, since the buses leave from city terminals, not the airport.

By bus

  • From Mexico City there's an overnight departure from the Terminal Central del Norte at around 10:15 PM (Servicios Coordinados, Transportes Frontera and ETN).
  • It reaches Xilitla in the morning (about 6:30 AM); the trip takes ~9–10 h. Fares are roughly $520–$900 MXN per person.
  • If you arrive on that morning bus, we can start the first tour that same day.

Once you're in the area

Once you're in the area, our transport takes you from the hotel to the start of each tour and back. For reference: Xilitla is ~40 min from Aquismón and ~1 h from Ciudad Valles; Ciudad Valles is ~50 min from Tamasopo.

What people who've done this package sayIn their own words (Spanish).

Frequently asked questions

Is the price per person or per couple?+

Package prices are per couple (2 people). For groups, families or extra people we put together a quote tailored to you — message us on WhatsApp.

How do I get to Xilitla?+

You can come by car, by plane (Tampico is the most practical airport) or on the overnight bus from Mexico City (Terminal Norte, ~10:15 PM, arriving ~6:30 AM). The 'How to get here' section above explains each option in detail.

How do I get to Xilitla from Mexico City?+

The most practical way is the overnight bus from the Terminal Central del Norte (~10:15 PM, Servicios Coordinados / ETN), which reaches Xilitla around 6:30 AM for about $650 MXN per person. A taxi of roughly $60 MXN drops you at the hotel in 7 minutes. Since you arrive at dawn, we give you your room early so you can rest, and your first tour starts that same day: you don't lose Day 1.

Can I choose my room?+

Yes. Hotel Paraíso Encantado has several rooms (Orquídeas, Bromelias, Lirios and Jungla). The jungle-view rooms are included in the price; the Jungla suite, with a mountain view, carries a supplement of $400 MXN per night. On the Honeymoon package the Jungla is already included, with no supplement.

Does the price include getting to Xilitla?+

It isn't included, but we do arrange it separately: we offer private transfers from San Luis Potosí (from $6,000 round trip per vehicle), Tampico (from $5,000 round trip per vehicle), CDMX (from $14,000 round trip per vehicle). The package price does cover transport from the hotel to the start of each tour and back. If you'd rather make your own way, the 'How to get here' section lists the car, plane and bus options.

How do you confirm availability?+

When you send us your enquiry on WhatsApp we check hotel availability and dates in real time. We reply in under 1 hour, and you don't need to pay anything up front to hold your dates.

How much does a trip to the Huasteca Potosina cost?+

An all-inclusive package with hotel starts at $9,800 MXN per couple for 3 days and 2 nights — that is $4,900 MXN per person with lodging, tours, entrance fees, certified guides and breakfasts included. The longest one, 6 days and 5 nights, costs $20,500 MXN, also per couple. In between sit the rest: Family Package (4 days / 3 nights, $12,500 MXN per couple), Extreme Adventure (4 days / 3 nights, $13,500 MXN per couple), Your Huasteca (5 days / 4 nights, $18,000 MXN per couple). If you only want tours and no lodging, single-day tours run from $900 to $1,950 MXN per person. On top of that you pay your own travel to Xilitla, lunches and dinners, which are not included.

How many days do I need for the Huasteca Potosina?+

It depends less on how many days you have than on who you are travelling with: the packages are sorted by traveller, not by length. There is one for couples, one for families with children, one of hard adventure with ropes and rapids, one you put together tour by tour and one long enough not to repeat a single destination — Honeymoon (3 days / 2 nights, $9,800 MXN per couple): The Huasteca for two, unhurried; Family Package (4 days / 3 nights, $12,500 MXN per couple): Three days the kids can actually handle; Extreme Adventure (4 days / 3 nights, $13,500 MXN per couple): Ropes, rapids and the highest waterfall in Mexico; Your Huasteca (5 days / 4 nights, $18,000 MXN per couple): Four tour days, and you pick them; Huasteca Odyssey (6 days / 5 nights, $20,500 MXN per couple): Five days of tours without repeating a single place. The shortest is 3 days and 2 nights, the longest 6 days and 5 nights, and none goes below 3 days because the day you arrive already comes with a guided outing of its own. In every one of them you sleep at the same hotel in Xilitla, so you unpack once, however long the trip is.

Can I bring children? How much do they pay?+

Yes. The published package price covers two adults; from the third person on, we add what that person actually uses — a bed and a ticket for each tour. Children aged 6 to 10 pay 70% of each tour ticket and under-6s pay 50%, worked out automatically when you book. Up to 4 people sleep in one room; from the fifth on a second room is needed. Groups of more than 12 people we quote by hand on WhatsApp.

Can I change the dates of my package?+

Date changes are arranged on WhatsApp, and it helps to tell us as soon as you know: a package also holds hotel rooms, so its change and cancellation terms are the hotel's own and we confirm them to you in writing when you book. The policy published on this site covers the one-day tours: cancel 48 hours or more before and you get 100% of what you paid back; between 48 and 24 hours we keep 50%; with less than 24 hours there is no refund, but you can reschedule once at no extra cost within the following 12 months. If we are the ones who cancel — a storm, a weather alert or a site closure — you choose between a 100% refund and rescheduling free of charge.

What is the difference between a package and buying the tours separately?+

A package puts into a single booking the same guided tours we sell individually, the nights at Hotel Paraíso Encantado in Xilitla, buffet breakfast on tour days and an itinerary already laid out day by day so the tours don't clash — laid out with you, in the build-your-own package — plus one person coordinating the whole trip. Buying separately, you book and pay for each tour on its own and arrange the hotel yourself, which gives you more freedom over the dates. If you want the two figures side by side for your dates, message us on WhatsApp and we'll do both sums.
